For John Anderson, Texas A&M was more than a university. Becoming an Aggie was a dream he had carried since childhood.
John was born in Houston on December 14, 1980, and graduated from Canyon High School in 1999 before joining the United States Navy, where he served as a Petty Officer 1st Class. Years later, he fulfilled that childhood dream when he earned his MBA from Texas A&M while working at Memorial Hermann Hospital.
But the titles John earned throughout his life tell only part of his story.
He was a devoted father to Hunter, Hailey, Caleigh, John, and Aubree; a loving son and big brother; a faithful Christian; and the kind of friend and mentor who made sure people knew he cared. He was known for his generosity, his bear hugs, his unmistakable laugh, and his ability to bring humor into a room when he sensed someone needed it.
John built an accomplished career, serving as Director of Performance Excellence at CHI St. Luke’s and later as Vice President of Business Development for Houston Heavy Machinery. Yet even as his career grew, he continued giving his time to others. He mentored students at Mays Business School and ultimately returned to Texas A&M to teach Lean Six Sigma.
John passed away on February 17, 2021. He had also endured the loss of his wife of ten years, Jamie, who preceded him in death.
Today, John’s legacy lives on through the five children he loved, the family and friends who remember him, the students he mentored, and the Aggie community he had dreamed of joining since he was a boy.
The John W. Anderson III ’16 PMBA Endowed Memorial Aggie Ring Scholarship carries that legacy forward—helping another Aggie receive one of the most meaningful symbols of the university John loved.
